BASES (Baseball And Softball Essential Skills) features over 12,000 square feet of training space including a 6,000 square foot indoor practice field covered with Pro Sport Classic Grass. Pro Sport Classic is a 2 inch woven thin blade grass that provides an natural look playing surface. Over the fiber surface approximately 5 lbs/ft 2 of sand fill material (coated with acrylic pigment) is added to produce a cushioned playing surface. That material is groomed into the carpet and causes the synthetic grass fibers to stand up to create the look and feel of natural grass. The synthetic fill material is perfect for indoor use.

3 Iron Mikes for Baseball
BASES also features a variety of automated machines to use for hitting practice; 3 Iron Mike arm-style machines for baseball, 2 AccuFire II underhanded arm-style machines for fastpitch softball, and 1 Phantom double wheeled machine that can be converted for baseball OR softball use.
The Iron Mike machines, when renting a cage, are set at your requested speed. In general, the Iron Mike machines can range between 38 and 67 MPH (actual speed). The distance from the release point of the Iron Mike to the rear of the plate is approximately 40 feet. As such, the speeds listed above must be adjusted upward to determine effective pitch velocity that takes into account batter reaction time. The equivalent speeds reach up to the low 80's MPH. The Iron Mike machines at BASES are loaded with regular raised-stitch baseballs (not machine balls). These baseballs use special kevlar stitching to last longer in the pitching machines. Since we use regular baseballs, our balls will not leave the normal "machine ball" marks on your baseball bat.
The AccuFire II machines are also set at the customer requested velocities to support a range of ages and skill levels for fastpitch softball. Current AccuFire II machines range from 38 MPH to 60 MPH. The AccuFire II delivery arm is designed for use with 12" dimple softballs. Hence, we use these style balls in our machines. The AccuFire II delivers a very consistent pitch. The consistency allows the athlete (and coaches) to emphasize swing mechanics and timing without worrying about pitch placement. We have found, through the manufacturers recommendations and our own testing, that use of a raised stitch softball will not provide a consistent pitch in these machines. As such, we can not allow the use of personal raised-stitch softballs in our machines.
Finally, BASES offers a Phantom double-wheel pitching machine that can be used for either baseball or softball (conversion requires a 10 minute mechanical modification). The Phantom is a single ball feed machine that requires a second individual be present to load each pitch. This double-wheel machine has separate speed controls for each wheel and 3 degrees of positioning that allows adjustment vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. The variable speed controls allow the machine to pitch fastballs, curve balls, screwballs, knuckle balls, drop balls and rise balls with minor adjustments. The Phantom is similar to many double-wheel JUGS machines with the added safety feature of a cover over the rotating wheels.

Baseball Mounds & Softball Pitching Surface at BASES
BASES offers three full length pitching tunnels with six Beam Clay mounds to choose from; 3 for baseball and 3 for softball. The Beam Clay used at BASES is supplied by Partac Peat Corporation and is the same brand of clay (from the same supplier) that is used in all MLB stadiums. The baseball pitching mounds have been built to MLB specifications for height and slope. Each softball pitching rubber is surrounded by a flat packed-clay pitching surface to provide a realistic "outdoor" feel for the athlete. (Due to the nature of the softball pitching surface construction atop the concrete floor, the surface sits 2 inches higher than the home plate area. Please note that although the pitching surface is a bit higher than the plate, the surface is NOT sloped.)

BASES features a fully stocked Pro Shop with name brand equipment, apparel, and accesories. The Pro Shop offers equipment from Wilson, Rawlings, Easton, Under Armor, Mizuno, Martin, and more! If you don't see it on our shelves, we probably have it in our stock room. If it's not there, we'll get it for you as quickly as possible.
We currently have a HUGE supply of batting helmets, little league bats, and other team supplies you may not find locally. We also have a large collection of catcher's equipment for both baseball and softball. We even have umpire's protective equipment.
We also have the capability of producing t-shirts in-house. We can do simple uniforms with a very quick turnaround time. We also offer team shirts, keepsakes, and more. You can pick from thousands of ready made designs or provide your own artwork. Whether you need 10 shirts or 1000 shirts, we'll be happy to help you help you pick a style and design. Uniform orders using in-stock t-shirt inventory can be completed overnight. Small jobs (less than 50 shirts) can be completed in 3 to 4 days. Larger jobs may require somewhat longer. Ask about our t-shirt facilities during your next visit.
